Due to a gap in the speaker's roster for the continuing series of monthly presentations to junior and new starter level industry employees, GTC MD Simon Savident (a member of the STEP Guernsey Branch Committee and, more relevantly, the sub-committee responsible for organising this series) stepped in to deliver the latest topic of Trust and Company Accounting. His talk covered the statutory duties to prepare accounts for Guernsey Trusts and Companies as well as the other persuasive factors such as corporate governance, regulatory compliance and general best practice. He went on to cover the parties whose duty the preparation of accounts is, who is likely to be entitled to or want to see the accounts and the common features found within a set of financial statements. Finishing up with a session of 'jargon-busting' and a review of audit and audit exemption issues, Simon was relieved to see most of the audience were still awake and that some even found the energy to ask questions that proved they, at least, had been listening.
